Adding healthy habits to your morning routine, will definitely help to improve your lifestyle. Starting your day off with a proper routine (or rituals of some sort) will help to provide structure and guidance during your day. On the average weekday, I get out of my bed between 4:30 to 5:00 am. This leaves me with about an hour to prepare for my day. Many people question why I get up so early, but I’ve learned that it has been a habit that has lead to success in my life. Because I leave some time to spare, besides hygiene and putting on my clothes, I am able to refrain from having my mind in a frenzy…which could linger over into my work day. Leaving this time to spare, helps me to smooth out the wrinkles in my mind from the previous day, and attack the new day with positivity. Below, I am providing some suggestions on things you may want to incorporate in your morning routine.
1. Drink some Lemon Water
I know many people may find themselves feeling sluggish in the morning, but lemon water will help to shake the morning grog. It also helps to aid with digestion. If your feeling fancy, go ahead and add a little ginger, mint, and cucumber! I promise you will love it, and your body will love it more!
2. Make Your Bed
Want to feel empowered throughout your day? Make your bed every morning as if it was going to be featured in the latest “Better Homes and Gardens” Issue. This is a simple act that you can check off of your ‘to do’ list for the day! Accomplishing one thing, tends to build your confidence, encouraging you to go conquer more tasks.
3. Workout
Exercising is a great outlet when dealing with emotional rollercoasters, and it will also pump you with energy to keep you alert during your day. You know what works best for your own life, but I have found that working out before work, makes me more productive and I have a better mood. Maybe you aren’t ready to start with a lengthy workout in the morning, but I suggest doing some type of physical activity in the morning…even if it’s just 10 jumping jacks.
4. Journaling
I’m such a big fan of writing things down! (Hence the blog site) I believe that through writing my thoughts on paper, it helps to manifest those daydreams that linger in my mind. My love for notepads and blank paper is simply because it is a no judgement zone. It is a free space to attack in whatever way you deem necessary. Grieving? Write it down. Confused about your job? Write it down. Found the love of your life? Write it down. Happiest you’ve ever been in life? Write it down! Journaling your thoughts also helps to measure your growth in life. Start writing every morning for about 5 minutes, and see how far you’ve come in the next five months.
5. Self Talk
I’m also an advocate for having small chats with yourself. Just like going to the doctor, it’s necessary to have the occasional check up of what lies within. Work through decisions that you have yet to make. Reevaluate the current goals you have set. Look in the mirror and give yourself a compliment. There are many ways to engage in self talk, but during your morning routine, I encourage you to be motivational, complimentary, and work through problem solving. Don’t worry, I talk to myself all the time and I think I’m pretty sane!
